FARGO (KFGO) – Essentia Health-Fargo has opened a second electrophysiology procedural suite, a $2 million expansion designed to double its capacity for treating heart rhythm disorders.
The project repurposed an existing general operating room into a specialized laboratory. The addition enables both of the hospital’s Fargo-based electrophysiologists to perform procedures simultaneously, a move officials say will cut patient wait times nearly in half.
Electrophysiology focuses on diagnosing and treating arrhythmias, which are irregular heartbeats caused by abnormal electrical signals in heart tissue. The new facility features advanced 3D mapping and imaging technology to address complex conditions, including atrial fibrillation.
“Not only does this new space expand our capacity to perform electrophysiology procedures more efficiently and in a timelier manner, but it also opens up availability for our patients,” said Kaila Jangula, operations manager of the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab.
Constructed as a hybrid space, the lab is also equipped with a biplane fluoroscopy system, which captures real-time video images from two angles at once. This allows the room to double as a site for interventional neurology procedures when needed.
Health system officials reported that more than 30 patients have been treated in the new suite since it opened in early June.
