MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Minnesota State University Moorhead opened the 2026-27 academic year with a 6% increase in total enrollment, making it the fastest-growing campus in the Minnesota State system, university officials announced Monday.
Total headcount reached 4,622 students, boosted by an 8% jump in new undergraduate enrollment. In total, 1,876 new students enrolled across undergraduate and graduate programs this fall.
Alongside overall growth, MSUM reported a record 80% retention rate for returning second-year students, surpassing its long-term retention goals four years ahead of schedule.
The enrollment boost coincides with the launch of the university’s new Honors College, which welcomed 300 students in its inaugural semester, including 200 incoming freshmen. MSUM also introduced its first class of Fargo and West Fargo Scholars, an initiative offering an additional $6,000 scholarship to top local public high school graduates.
“Our enrollment growth is a clear indicator of the strong momentum we are building,” said Jason Trainer, vice president of enrollment management and strategic initiatives. “The fact that approximately 25% of our freshmen have enrolled in the Honors College speaks to the caliber of students choosing Moorhead.”
