Nancy Trottier (Stutsman County Jail)
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (KFGO) — An Arizona woman has pleaded not guilty to killing her newborn in Valley City 45 years ago.
Attorneys for Nancy Trottier, 65, filed paperwork July 20 that waives her upcoming preliminary hearing. As part of the filing, Trottier pleaded not guilty to Felony AA murder.
In April 1981, the body of a baby girl was found in the woods near Valley City State University. An autopsy determined that the baby was suffocated shortly after birth. Police named the girl Rebecca. The case went cold until 2019 when the body was exhumed. A criminal complaint says genetic testing connected the baby’s DNA to Trottier, who was attending Valley City State University at the time of the murder.
Trottier was charged this April. She is in the Stutsman County Jail. Her next court date is scheduled for October 6.
