WEST FARGO, ND (KFGO) – The Cass County Historical Society has received a $2,500 grant to help fund an inventory and cleanup project at the Bonanzaville museum complex.
The funding, provided by the FM Area Foundation, will cover the cost share required to catalog, clean and relocate an estimated 30,000 artifacts currently housed in an overflow storage building.
Project manager Casey Young said the initiative is vital to preserving regional history that has been left in the dark for too long.
“I am so grateful for the support of the FM Area Foundation in assisting to fund this project,” Young said in a statement. “The project is needed to organize, clean, and relocate artifacts that have been improperly stored for decades.”
The historical society is the primary cultural institution tasked with uncovering, preserving and telling the history of Cass County. Its main attraction, Bonanzaville, is a 12-acre pioneer village in West Fargo that includes a main museum, 36 historic buildings and several specialized collections, including air, agricultural and law enforcement museums. The site draws more than 30,000 visitors annually.
The donor, the FM Area Foundation, is a community foundation serving Cass County, North Dakota, and Clay County, Minnesota. Operating since 1960, the foundation manages charitable funds and provides grants and scholarships to local nonprofits and students.
