Oct 28 (Reuters) – Retail giant Walmart on Wednesday unveiled its holiday meal basket price at $3.50 per person, the lowest since the retailer launched the program in 2022 at a time US shoppers are facing persistent inflation and wider economic uncertainty.
• The basket, which is meant for 10 people, includes 26 items, such as Butterball turkey, mashed potato and gravy, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie
• The drop in price from last year’s $4 per person comes as US retailers ramp up value-focused promotions ahead of the crucial holiday shopping season to attract cost-conscious consumers
• The holiday season that starts in November encompasses Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas — days that drive a significant share of retailers’ annual sales amid heavy consumer spending
• Walmart in August raised its annual sales and profit forecasts and said aggressive price cuts would boost demand later in the year
