(KNFL/KFGO) – After the Fargo Force won 3-2 Friday evening in Sioux Falls in the first game of a home-and-home series against the Stampede, they were looking for a sweep at Scheels Arena Saturday evening. This would start a five-game homestand.
Former Moorhead Spud, Zac Zimmerman, started the scoring for the Force with his second goal of the season at the 2:53 mark of the first period, assisted by Zaide Penner. Bryce Mattern, an Arizona State commit and former West Fargo product, made it 2-0 Fargo at the 8:05 mark of the first while Karson Young got the assist.
In the second period, Jacob Jett would score his first goal in the USHL at the 5:34 mark of the period. Bryce Mattern and AJ Garcia would get assists. For Garcia, it would be his sixth assist of the season.
At the 14:32 mark of the third period, Bryce Mattern would get his second goal of the game on an empty Sioux Falls net to make it 4-0 Fargo, and he would secure the hat-trick at the 17:59 mark of the third, while being assisted by AJ Francisco.
The Force would win 5-0, securing a home-and-home sweep of the defending Clark Cup Champions.
Fargo goalie and 3rd round NHL draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets, Sam Hrenak, would record a shutout, stopping all 34 Sioux Falls shots.
Fargo would get 33 shots on net in the win. They’d also be 0/4 on the power play. Sioux Falls, meanwhile, only had one power play.
The Force have now won four straight games, and are now 5-3-0-0 on the season.
Fargo continues their five-game homestand Thursday, October 15th against the Green Bay Gamblers for a two-game series. The puck drop will be set for 7:05 PM.
