FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Fargo Police Department is recognizing three area people for saving lives.
They were all given the “Citizen Citations of Distinguished Service Awards”.
Chauncey Ost and Lee Preyma saved an 11-year-old boy who was drowning after going down a waterslide at a hotel pool.
They took turns performing CPR on the child, who had stopped breathing and no longer had a pulse, until he coughed up water and began breathing on his own.
Amy Strand received the award for her actions that saved the life of her neighbor’s infant from choking.
“It was something I wasn’t expecting,” Ost said. “I mean, they said it was a big deal for what happened, it was kind of a big event, but, yeah, I was not expecting anything and then I got the phone call and, you know, it’s cool to be recognized for this.”
“(It’s) Very humbling,” Strand said. “I think that anybody in the community, especially the Fargo-Moorhead community would do anything to help somebody in need. I’m just thankful I was in the right place at the right time.”
Strand and Ost each received their awards in person. Preyma was not able to be there but attended the ceremony online.
