District 1 – Baudette area

CO Nick Bruesewitz (Karlstad) reports checking grouse hunters on a rainy opening weekend. Nuisance animal calls were handled throughout the week. Enforcement action was taken on taking deer out of season.
CO Tony Hams (Warroad North) spent the week monitoring local ATV traffic, checking area small game hunters, and following up with various complaints.
CO Coby Fontes (Warroad South) spent the week instructing at LEMA’s Honor Guard and monitoring area small game and big game activities. Enforcement action was taken for transporting a loaded gun. Fontes also assisted CO Huener and CO Bruesewitz with a case of people night hunting deer, out of season, while intoxicated.
CO Bobby Stringer (Thief River Falls West) focused patrol efforts on small game, archery deer, and continued bear hunting. Small game is off to a good start with “zero” safety related issued noted. While checking archery hunters along the Pembina Trial, multiple new cross-county ATV trails were observed in prohibited areas. Please check trail maps and signs to ensure WMA rules are followed. Enforcement actions for the week included several open bottle/container and ATV violations.
CO Sarah Jahn (Thief River Falls East) time was spent working the small game and archery openers. A law and ethics talk was given at a firearms safety class. Enforcement action was taken for juveniles without helmets on ATVs.
CO Nicholas Prachar (Blackduck #1) reports a busy small game opener. Complaints of trespassing and nuisance bear were handled, both including damage to standing crops. Enforcement action was taken for no license in possession and no headlights on an ATV.

District 2 – Bemidji area

CO Jamus Veit (Bemidji #1) spent the week working a shining detail with other officers, attending training at Camp Ripley, patrolling ATV trails, and handling various complaints and calls from the public. Time was also spent working archery and small game opener.
CO Andrew Goodman (Perham) checked anglers, archery deer hunters, and small game hunters over the weekend. Many signs of fall were observed, including changing foliage colors, migrating waterfowl and much cooler waters. On a chilly, foggy and windy night, Goodman was dispatched to a local lake, well after dark, for a missing paddle boat with 5 young children and 1 adult. Despite the conditions, all occupants were located and transported back to shore in fair condition.
CO Jake Swedberg (Detroit Lakes) spent time this week patrolling ATV trails and area forests for bear hunting activity. CO Swedberg also answered many questions about the new hunting regulations, the new electronic licensing system, and other questions about the upcoming hunting seasons. He also attended EnviroFest, in Todd County, with other COs and K9 Axel, where they performed several demonstrations for the students.
CO Curtis Jepson (Osage) spent the week patrolling the area for small game and archery hunting, which opened this weekend. Bear hunters are also having success, according to harvest reports. The officer also attended a firearms safety class in Osage and fielded various calls regarding wildlife complaints.
CO Angela Warren (Mahnomen) worked angling and boating activity. AIS inspections were conducted, with many boats being removed for the season. Bear baiting and hunting activity was worked, as well as patrol for ATV and off-road vehicles. Small game and archery opener was worked, with a few hunters trying their luck.
CO Bill Landmark (Moorhead) spent the week checking anglers and early goose hunters. Time was also spent attending the NDSU criminal justice career fair with CO Wood.
CO Grey Corbus (Pelican Rapids) spent the week fielding various animal complaints, monitoring small game hunting, archery deer hunting, and ATV activity. Corbus worked with other COs in the southeast part of the state, for the busy small game opener. Activity was high during the opening weekend, despite the heavy rain in the area. Enforcement action was taken for various ATV violations and small game violations.
CO Brady Manteufel (Bagley) followed up on deer baiting tips and addressed a trespassing dispute. ATV enforcement action was taken for operating ATV without lights and registration display issues. One operator admitted to displaying a registration from another ATV that they owned. Lands were checked for small game and archery activity. One party was found preparing to hunt grouse a day early, as they thought the season opened September 12th, according to another website. Please check the DNR website and regulations book and not outside sources.

District 3 – Fergus Falls area

CO Tricia Plautz (Henning) spent a day at EnviroFest speaking to several youth on recreational vehicle safety rules and the job of a CO. Investigation of a public waters violation is being conducted where illegal excavation occurred. Wetland issues continue to be monitored with restoration orders in place. Goose hunters were monitored with minimal birds observed in the area. Small game and archery opener was worked along with several phone calls received on the new license system.
CO Ryan Brown (Elbow Lake) continued to monitor angling and boating activity during the week and focused his enforcement effort on small game during the weekend.
CO Shane Osborne (Evansville) checked bow hunters, boats, ATV’s and fishermen. APM and public waters violations RPN’s were issued to the responsible parties. License and hunting regulation questions were received and answered.
CO Jake Homan (Alexandria) spent the week patrolling Douglas County for angling, waterfowl, and ATV activities. Additional time was spent assisting local agencies on calls for service. Enforcement action was taken on a variety of offenses.
CO Felicia Znajda (Osakis) spent patrol efforts on bear hunting, goose hunting, and archery opener activity. She spoke with many archery hunters in the field with harvest numbers being low. She continued to patrol for ATV activity as it has increased. Various enforcement action taken throughout the week including hunt with invalid deer license.
CO Emily Douvier (Morris) reports working fishing and recreational enforcement. Questions were answered regarding the upcoming hunting seasons. Training was also attended.
CO Andrew Ladzinski (Glenwood) spent his time on fall angling and archery enforcement. He saw an increase in fishing activity on local lakes as the fall bite picked up with sunfish and walleye in the livewells. Enforcement action was taken for angling without a license and operating an ATV on a state highway. He assisted other agencies with wildlife related calls.

District 4 – Walker area

CO Landyn Saewert (Wadena) spent the week checking waterfowl hunters, fishermen, and bear hunters. A shining detail was worked in district 2. Enforcement action was taken for operating a class 1 ATV where prohibited. Several calls were fielded regarding the new licensing system.
CO Patrick McGowan (Cass Lake) worked Winnibigoshish, Leech and Cass lakes throughout the week and weekend. Anglers are reporting a slow walleye bite. Enforcement action was taken for angling with extra lines, angling without a license, illegal length northern, illegal length muskie, and numerous boating violations.
CO Jack Lien (Walker) continued looking for bear hunters while keeping an eye out for small game and archery hunters. Lien teamed up with members of his district to work an ATV detail during a large-scale ATV ride near Park Rapids. Lien assisted local DNR Fisheries employees with a netting survey on Leech Lake.
CO Levi Brown (Staples) attended training at Camp Ripley.
