FARGO (KFGO) – The Fargo Police Department is ramping up enforcement against street racing and high-speed reckless driving, warning motorists that dangerous conduct behind the wheel carries life-and-death consequences.
Supported by a grant, the department’s dedicated six-officer Traffic Safety Team focuses on severe traffic violations across the city, particularly along major corridors such as South University Drive. Common offenses include red-light running, extreme speeding, drag racing and fleeing from officers.

“We’ve had some incidents lately in our community that have cost people their lives,” Police Capt. Travis Moser said during a broadcast interview on KFGO’s “Afternoons Live.” “If you drive like this, whether you’re fleeing from officers or out there racing each other, the ramifications are you could take somebody’s life or significantly injure them for the rest of their life.”
Addressing public perception regarding local vehicle meetups, Moser emphasized that law enforcement is not targeting car culture, but rather individual drivers whose actions threaten public safety.
“We’re not anti-car groups. The Fargo Police Department is not against car groups,” Moser said. “What we are against is dangerous driving. So whether you’re part of a car group or not, if you’re driving dangerously, we’re going to address you.”
Offenders face consequences ranging from traffic citations and vehicle impoundment to felony-level reckless endangerment charges. Police urge residents to report dangerous driving to assist officers in tracking data and deploying targeted patrols.
