BLOOMINGTON (KFGO/WCCO) – One person was injured during a mid-afternoon shootout Wednesday about a half-mile from the Mall of America.
Police were called to an apartment building around 1:40 p.m. near American Boulevard and 30th Avenue on a report of two groups shooting at one another.
Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges says two groups were shooting at one another.
“So, the community members in this area, obviously we get a call like this, people shooting in the middle of the damn day, there’s a local business over there sick that we had to go to some security procedures while our canine officers started to search the area for weapons,” Hodges describes.
Hodges says multiple arrests were made including at least two suspects who were arrested after fleeing in a vehicle. He says more arrests are likely, and anyone else involved needs to come forward.
“This is the Bloomington Police Department. I think our track record speaks for itself,” Chief Hodges said. “We will find you. You can sing a Lauryn Hill song all day, we’re gonna find you. And you will get locked up and you will go to jail. So I strongly suggest, there’s a couple more people involved in this, that you just go ahead and turn yourself in and just make it easy for everybody else.”
Officers used a pit maneuver to stop and arrest two suspects who fled in a vehicle. It’s a law-enforcement tactic in which a pursuing vehicle strikes the side-rear of a pursued vehicle, causing it to swing around and come to an unplanned stop.
