Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND)
FARGO (KFGO) – North Dakota U.S. Senator John Hoeven says the United States needed to deal with Iran and its nuclear weapons. Hoeven says Iran has concerning capabilities with ballistic missiles.
“They’ve been killing Americans, they support Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, the other terrorists. They’re the number one state supporter of terror in the world. So yes, we have to deal with them, we have to keep the pressure on them, open up the Straight of Hormuz,” Hoeven said.
Hoeven says in the long term, the war will stabilize and lower energy prices. He also says he believes the United States needs to be self sufficient when it comes to things like energy and fertilizer.
He also says the Trump Administration was prepared for Iran’s unpredictable leadership to take control of the straight of Hormuz.
“I think they planned for that contingency, now you got to recognize that Iran, you know, they’re not a rational actor. I mean, there’s question about who’s even in charge over there. I mean is it the Ayatollahs, is it the IRGC, Is it their so called parliament or government, ” Hoeven said.
For the war to end, Hoeven says it has to be on terms that are beneficial for the United States and not Iran. The senator did not want to put a specific date on when the war would be over.
Hoeven made his comments on KFGO’s News and Views with Joel Heitkamp.
