(KNFL/KFGO) – The RedHawks began a six game road trip Tuesday, with their first stop in Sioux City to face the Explorers for a three game series. The RedHawks would send Bryce Brassfield to the mound to face Explorers starting pitcher Jarod Wright.
The RedHawks wasted no time in the first inning putting up runs. Eric Filia and Tripp Clark had back to back solo homeruns to make it 2-0 RedHawks.
The Explores would threaten in the bottom of the first with a runner on second and two outs. Braulio Vásquez had a hard hit ball to centerfield that looked like it would drop for extra bases only to be robbed by Dillon Thomas on a gold glove like catch.
In the 2nd it was Eric Felia and Tripp Clark again adding insurance runs for the RedHawks. Felia hit a two run double and Tripp Clark followed with a one run double to give the RedHawks a 5-0 lead.
In the top of the 4th inning, Jesus Lujano would hit a RBI double to extend the lead to 6-0. The Explorers would push two runners across in the bottom of the 4th inning with RBI singles by Alberto Osuna and D’Shawn Knowles to make it 6-2.
The RedHawks would add two runs back in the 5th when Brian Fuentes hit a RBI single. Fuentes would eventually score on a fielding error by second baseman Yorman Rodriguez to make it 8-2 RedHawks.
In the top of the 6th, the RedHawks would load the bases with one out, but only manage to score one run on a Juan Fernandez sacrifice fly to make it 9-2. The Explorers would also score in the 6th inning when Alberto Osuna doubled on a fly ball to center field to score Braulio Vásquez making it 9-3. Another run would score when Dillon Tatum hit a fielders choice that looked like a double play ball, but was thrown away by RedHawks 2nd baseman Tucupita Marcano, allowing Alberto Osuna and D’Shawn Knowles to score making it 9-5
The Explorers would score one more run in the 8th on a Jackson Van De Brake RBI for a final score of 9-6
The series in Sioux City continues tomorrow. Pregame starts at 6:15pm on 740AM/107.3FM, 740theFAN.com, and on The FAN Mobile App.
