(KNFL/KFGO) – The RedHawks would play the rubber game of a three-game series against the Sioux City Explorers at Newman Outdoor Field Thursday afternoon. Fargo-Moorhead was looking to win their 10th straight series at home.
Kyle Crigger would start on the mound for the Fargo-Moorhead. He’d be opposed by Peniel Otano of Sioux City.
The Explorers struck first on an RBI single by Braulio Vásquez in the top of the first.
Facing relief pitcher Bryce Brassfield, Sioux City got another RBI single in the top of the fifth inning by Austin Davis to make it a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, the RedHawks would intentionally walk Braulio Vásquez, which would load the bases. Alberto Osuna would then hit a two-run double to give Sioux City a 4-0 lead.
Jesus Lujano would get the RedHawks on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Peniel Otano would be taken out of the game with two outs. He’d be replaced by Ryan Beaird. After a groundout by Tripp Clark, Lujano would move to second base. Then, Jose Sermo hit an RBI single to drive in Lujano to make it a 4-2 game.
In the top of the sixth, Zac Vooletich would hit a pop up along the right field line, and 1st baseman Jose Sermo dropped the ball, allowing Austin Davis to score from second base with two outs.
The Sioux City Explorers would use a total of five bullpen arms, including Trey Morrill, who got the save in a 5-2 win for the X’s.
Fargo-Moorhead left eight runners on base, while getting seven hits. The winning pitcher was Anderson Bido of Sioux City, going one single inning in relief. Rob Hughes and Kelvin Caceres would each earn a hold. Both also went one whole inning of relief. Kyle Crigger of Fargo-Moorhead was the losing pitcher, going four innings, while allowing four hits and one unearned run, and striking out three batters.
The RedHawks are now 40-36 and will welcome in the Sioux Falls Canaries for a four-game series starting Friday evening at Newman Outdoor Field. The pregame show is set for 6:40 PM on 740 The FAN KNFL AM Fargo/107.3 FM, 740thefan.com, and the FAN mobile app.
