(KNFL/KFGO) – Fargo-Moorhead would be known as the Woodchippers in Tuesday night’s game that saw the RedHawks drop to 39-35. The Woodchippers gave the start to left-hander Eric Chalus. Sioux City would start the leagues strike out leader, right-hander Zach Willeman.
Sioux City put up the games first run in the top of the first inning, coming off an RBI single from Explorers third baseman Braulio Vásquez.
Dillon Tatum would add another run in the next inning when he hit an RBI double to give the Explorers a 2-0 lead.
Jesus Lujano would give the Woodchippers their first run in the bottom of the third. Lujano reached first on a bunt, and a wild throw to first would move him to second and bring Brian Fuentes in to score. With runners on second and third, Tucupita Marcano would bat into a fielders choice. Lujano would get caught in a rundown when headed to third that allowed the tying run to score for the Woodchippers.
Zac Vooletich would find himself at the plate in the top of the fourth with the bases loaded. Vooletich crushed a three RBI double that would clear the bases and give the Explorers a three run lead.
Fargo-Moorhead was able to get two runs back in the bottom of the fourth. The first coming from a Tripp Clark RBI single and the other coming off a Jesus Lujano sacrifice fly.
In the top of the eighth, Sioux City added two insurance runs on back to back sacrifice flies to give the Explorers a 7-4 lead. Trey Morrill would come in and shut the door for Sioux City in the bottom of the ninth.
Woodchippers starter Eric Chalus got the loss going 4.0 innings, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits and striking out 1. Sioux City’s starter Zach Willeman would get the victory going 6.0 innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and striking out 7. Closer Trey Morrill recorded the save.
