(KFAN/KFGO) – The RedHawks and Kansas City Monarchs met for the rubber game of a three game series Sunday afternoon in Kansas City.
In the bottom of the 1st inning, Monarchs’ Austin Callahan would hit a ground rule double. Luken Baker would follow with a 2 run homerun to make it 2-0 Kansas City. Hudson Head would later hit a RBI double and it was 3-0 Monarchs after one inning.
Monarchs starting pitcher Michael Mariot would have a no-hitter going into the 5th inning. He would record the first two outs of the fifth when Michael Snyder would break up the no-hitter with the RedHawks first hit of the game.
In the top of the 6th the RedHawks would score on a Tucupita Marcano RBI triple. Marcano would eventually score on a Jose Sermo sacrafice fly to make it 3-2 Monarchs. The Monarchs would add some insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th when Saul Garza hit a solo homerun to make it 4-2. Hudson Head would hit a fielder’s choice RBI with two runners on to make it 5-2 Monarchs after six innings.
The score remained 5-2 until the the top of the 8th inning. With two runners on and two outs, Jose Sermo crushed a three run homerun to tie the game 5-5.
In the top of the 9th inning, Dillon Thomas lead off with a walk. Brian Fuentes would lay down a sacrifice bunt to advance Thomas to second. Michael Synder would get Thomas to third base on a sacrifice fly. With Thomas on third, Aidan Byrne would slash a single to score Thomas and give the RedHawks a 6-5 lead.
Parker Harm and Tyler Jeans would combine to pitch a scoreless bottom of the 9th to give the RedHawks a 6-5 win.
