Terry Steinwand (Burleigh Morton Detention Center)
MANDAN, N.D. (KFGO/KVRR) – Former North Dakota Game and Fish director Terry Steinwand of Mandan has been sentenced to two years of probation for a sex crime involving a child. He will avoid jail time.
The plea deal agreement comes after a Morton County district court judge rejected an earlier proposed plea agreement to a felony charge.
The state’s attorney’s office dismissed that charge and filed one count of misdemeanor sexual assault-offensive contact against the 72-year old.
When he was originally charged, police said Steinwand admitted to touching a child inappropriately.
He spent 40 years with Game and Fish and retired in 2021.
