(KNFL/KFGO) – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks win the series after an extra inning win. This is the ninth straight home series the RedHawks have won, continuing to increase their franchise record. The RedHawks would start right-hander Bryce Brassfield and the Explorers brought out right-hander Peniel Otano.
Fargo-Moorhead began the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, getting a pair of RBI singles from Jose Sermo and Matt Kroon to make the score 2-0.
In the second inning the Explorers would get a run back with an RBI single from Yorman Rodriguez. Fargo-Moorhead would also tally an RBI single in the second from Jesus Lujano.
The RedHawks would make it 4-1 in the bottom of the third when Tucupita Marcano hit an RBI double to left field.
Sioux City would get two runs back with two outs in the top of the fifth after back-to-back RBI doubles from Henry George and Braulio Vásquez.
Dillon Thomas brought the RedHawks lead back up to two in the bottom of the fifth, crushing his 13th home run of the season. Jesus Lujano would then hit an RBI single in the sixth inning to make it a 6-3 game.
The Explorers would two again in the seventh, coming off an RBI double from Henry George. Zac Vooletich would score four pitches later on a wild pitch to make the score 6-5.
Fargo-Moorhead would get some insurance in the bottom of the seventh, thanks to Brian Fuentes’ second homer of the series.
In the top of the ninth, the Explorers would crawl back into the game. Osuna would hit a ball to second base where Tucupita Marcano was charged with an error that gave up a run. Sioux City would then hit back-to-back singles to bring in the tying run.
In the top of the tenth inning, RedHawks reliever Jon Beymer hit the first batter of the inning, putting runners on first and second. After controversial strike call to avoid the walk, Zac Vooletich would hit into a double play. Jon Beymer went on to get out of the inning without giving up a run.
Fargo-Moorhead would move the extra inning runner to third with a sacrifice bunt to begin the tenth inning. This would bring up Aidan Byrne, who would lay down a perfect suicide-squeeze bunt to score the winning run and give the RedHawks an 8-7 win.
The RedHawks starter Bryce Brassfield went 4.0 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 6. Reliver Jon Beymer was credited with the win.
Explorers starter Peniel Otano would go 4.1 innings giving up 9 hits and 5 runs with no strikeouts. Closer Trey Morrill picked up the loss.
