(KNFL/KFGO) – Fargo-Moorhead was looking to win the series with a win in this game, and they would do just that. It was a wet and rainy day at Newman Outdoor Field where the RedHawks would hit their way into an 8-2 win. The RedHawks would start left-handed pitcher Matt Walker and the Lincoln Saltdogs would start right-hander Graham Edwards.
The first run in this game would come in the bottom of the second, where Brian Fuentes would hit a single into left field that would bring in DH Tripp Clark to make it 1-0 in favor of the RedHawks.
Lincoln would even the game up at one in the top of the fourth however, thanks to a solo home run by right fielder Cary Arbolida.
It was in the bottom of the fifth where the RedHawks would start to get hot. Aidan Byrne would get the inning started with a single. Jesus Lujano moved him over to second with a sacrifice bunt, but that proved to be unnecessary after Juan Fernandez would crush a two-run home run to make it a 3-1 game.
In the bottom of the sixth, with a man on first Brian Fuentes would walk to put a runner in scoring position. Andy Nelson would come up to bat and club a three-run home run to break the game wide open.
The RedHawks would add even more in the next inning. In the home half of the seventh, Tripp Clark would drive in a run on a one out single. Later in the inning Brian Fuentes would ground into a fielders choice that would bring Jose Sermo in to score making it 8-1.
The Saltdogs would get one back in the top of the eighth when Jairo Pomares hit an RBI single to bring the score to 8-2. From that point on the RedHawks reliever Angelo Cabral would strike out three straight to end the inning. Cabral would add 2 more strikeouts in the top of the ninth to hold the Saltdogs at two.
Fargo-Moorhead’s starter Matt Walker would get the win after going 6.0 innings, giving up 1 earned run and striking out 4. The Saltdogs starter Graham Edwards would get the loss after going 6.0 innings, giving up 5 earned runs and striking out 5.
The RedHawks stay at Newman Outdoor Field tomorrow to start a three-game series against the Sioux City Explorers. Pregame starts at 6:40PM on 740AM The FAN/ 107.3FM, 740thefan.com, and The FAN Mobile App.
