FARGO (KFGO) – Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon is responding to threats from the Trump Administration to pull critical funding if states don’t follow voting guidelines from the Federal Government.
“Congress can pass a law if they want to step in and do stuff the states do, and they do that from time to time, but there’s nothing in the Constitution about a president, any president, this one or any one, just waving a magic wand and decreeing things and trying to take over elections that’s not how it works.” Simon said.
The Trump Administration’s voting guidelines demand that every ballot is hand counted, Simon previously called that demand a “recipe for disaster”.
The Secretary of State has also said that Minnesota is not receiving Federal dollars used for election security, which could lead to more fraud.
Simon was firm on his stance that Minnesota’s upcoming election will be honest and fair.
“We’ve got to tune out the noise and focus on delivering what every voter wants. Which is an election that’s fair and accurate and honest and secure, and let the chips fall where they may. Whoever wins, what party, whatever, you got to protect the freedom to vote and that means every voter.” Simon said.
Simon made his comments on KFGO News and Views with Joel Heitkamp.
