(KNFL/KFGO) – The RedHawks returned home to Newman Outdoor Field Monday night to begin a three game series versus the Lincoln Saltdogs.
In the bottom of the 1st inning, Tripp Clark who had a great defensive play to save a potential run from scoring, would hit a bases loaded single to put the RedHawks up 2-0.
In the top of the 4th inning, Jake Hjelle who was playing his first game back at Newman Outdoor Field since being traded by the RedHawks, hit a solo homerun off Kolby Kiser to make it 2-1.
In the top of the 5th inning, Calyn Halvorson of the SaltDogs would try to stretch a single into a double only to be gunned down at second base by Dillon Thomas. In the bottom of the 5th, both Jairus Richards and Jose Sermo would walk. With two on, Brian Fuentes would hammer a three run shot off of Jacob Hughes to give the RedHawks a 5-1 lead. That would be all for Jacob Hughes who gave up 5 runs in 4.1 innings with 8 walks.
The score would remain 5-1 until the top of the 8th inning when Saltdogs’ Jacob Morrow hit a solo home run to make it 5-2. That would be all for Colby Kiser who pitched 7.1 innings giving up 2 runs with 5 strikeouts in perhaps his best start of the season.
RedHawks’ Mason Pelio would enter the 9th inning and pitch a scoreless inning for his 2nd Save of the season.
The series continues Tuesday night with the RedHawks again hosting the Lincoln Saltdogs. Pregame begins at 6:40pm on 740AM The FAN/ 107.3FM, 740theFAN.com, and The FAN Mobile App.
