Voters are advised to monitor local weather forecasts and road conditions before traveling to the polls, and to allow extra travel time due to anticipated high winds and hazardous conditions.
FARGO (KFGO) – State and county election officials are closely monitoring severe weather conditions forecasted to impact North Dakota during voting hours Tuesday, but officials say operations will proceed as scheduled.
Election workers are partnering with emergency management agencies and polling place staff to ensure operations continue without interruption and voters can safely cast their ballots.
“We encourage voters to plan ahead and seek to vote prior to severe weather impacting their area, if possible,” Secretary of State Michael Howe said. “Our priority is ensuring every eligible voter has the opportunity to cast a ballot while maintaining the safety of voters, election workers, and the public.”
Howe also urged local businesses to work flexibly with employees to ensure everyone has enough time to travel and vote safely.
State officials emphasized that potential power outages will not affect the election because North Dakota uses paper ballots.
Voters are advised to monitor local weather forecasts and road conditions before traveling to the polls, and to allow extra travel time due to anticipated high winds and hazardous conditions.
Any last-minute polling location changes will be posted online at vote.nd.gov.
“Election officials remain committed to conducting a secure, accurate, and accessible election despite potential weather-related challenges,” Howe said. “The safety for our citizens and the thousands of election workers who make today possible is first and foremost in our minds.”
