ST. PAUL, Minn. – College students are voicing frustration after the Minnesota State Board of Trustees approved a second straight tuition hike – an average increase of 6.25% across 33 colleges and universities.
Board members say the decision comes amid rising inflation, higher operating costs, and another year of flat funding from the Legislature. Student leaders warn the increase could put additional financial strain on already struggling students, forcing some to take on more loans, cut back on classes, or even pause their education.
Students say the burden shouldn’t fall on them and are calling for long-term solutions, including increased state investment, to keep higher education affordable.
