FARGO (KFGO) — Fargo Public Schools broke ground for the new Horace Mann Elementary school project Friday.
Fargo Schools staff, school board members, construction, and architecture team members turned over dirt in front of students from Horace Mann, Roosevelt, and Madison schools.
The old school will be demolished after this school year ends in June.
Horace Mann-Roosevelt principal Leandra Ostrom says there is a lot of excitement for the project.
“We’re excited to get our learners a fresh new place to learn, and our teachers a fresh new place to be professional and creative. And a brand new place to keep loving children. We’re so excited for that, it’s just going to be a magnificent time,” Ostrom said. “I think we fit everything perfectly, and days like today are really, really special.”
Classes will start at the new school, also called Horace Mann, in the fall of 2028.
During construction of the new $45 million school, students will attend class in either Washington, Roosevelt, or Madison Elementary Schools. Roosevelt will serve students in third through fifth grade. Madison will take students in kindergarten through second grade. Washington will take in students in Kindergarten through fifth grade.
