MINOT, N.D. (KFGO) – A Minot man is accused of stealing $1.5 million from his employer.
Minot Police say officers arrested 49-year-old Patrick McCarty at his home Wednesday.
Police began investigating after the Minot branch manager for Wilbur-Ellis, an agribusiness based in Denver, contacted them about the theft. The company discovered discrepancies in two invoices from PM Trucking.
Investigators determined that over 12 years, PM Trucking submitted over 150 fraudulent invoices for deliveries that never happened. Checks for the invoices were sent to McCarty’s home, the address listed for PM Trucking. Investigators used a search warrant to look into the bank account the checks were deposited into and found it was registered to McCarty and PM Trucking.
McCarty is in the Ward County jail, charged with felony theft by deception.
