MOORHEAD (KFGO) – The Minnesota Public Facility Authority (MPFA) is giving $91.7 million in loans and grants for wastewater and drinking water infrastructure projects in 26 cities throughout the state. The funding will replace nearly 1,000 lead service lines in 15 cities, among other projects.
Moorhead is receiving $466,630 in state funding to replace 30 lead service lines with copper lines. State officials say the funding helps replace aging infrastructure and make system improvements to protect public health and improve water quality.
“This state funding is essential to helping communities like Moorhead replace critical but outdated drinking and wastewater infrastructure,” said Sen. Rob Kupec. “Making sure every Minnesotan has safe and clean water is an investment in our public health and shows the important role agencies like the Public Facilities Authority have in supporting local governments and residents.”
Breckenridge is receiving $613,764 to replace approximately 40 lead pipes with copper service lines. Thief River Falls will get $930,710 to replace about 75 lead pipes.
“The MPFA’s work in keeping our water clean, drinkable and accessible is an investment in Minnesota’s health, environment and economy,” said MPFA Executive Director Steve Walter. “By providing crucial financing and technical assistance to communities that might not have access to it otherwise, the MPFA encourages economic growth and protects the health of Minnesotan communities, creating the infrastructure for long-term prosperity.”
Funding for these projects primarily comes from the MPFA’s Clean Water Revolving Fund (CWRF) and the Drinking Water Revolving Fund (DWRF).
Projects can also receive funding from MPFA’s Point Source Implementation Grant program, Water Infrastructure Fund and Small Community Wastewater Treatment Program.
Funding details for projects in all 26 cities are available on the MPFA website.
