Police staged outside a north Fargo home
FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Police say they have arrested the man who entered a home that was not his and refused to come out Friday.
Police have identified the man as Derrick St. Claire of Dilworth, 39. He was arrested for an outstanding Probation Violation warrant related to the sale of amphetamines and Burglary with a weapon.
Officers were called to the home in the 700 block of 2nd Street N. just before 10:30a.m. after St. Claire entered uninvited and began causing a disturbance. The people inside the home knew St. Claire. They were able to get out safely, but St. Claire refused to leave when officers arrived.
Police say St. Claire was armed with a hammer and knife. Sgt. Matt Christensen says there were early reports that the suspect may have tried lighting a fire inside the home, so Fargo Fire was called as a precaution.
After multiple attempts to convince St. Claire to come out of the home, officers called the Red River Valley SWAT team for assistance.
Christensen says the public may have heard loud noises after the SWAT team arrived. SWAT members used a flash bang diversionary device after they arrived, but no shots were fired.
Police are no longer asking people to stay away from the area.
