DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KFGO) – A transcript of the 911 call to Becker County emergency dispatch shows that the stepmother of state senator Nicole Mitchell armed herself with a small steak knife after reporting that someone had broken into her home early Monday morning.
Detroit Lakes police and county deputies responded to the home.
The transcript, released through an open records request from KFGO News, said that Mitchell’s stepmother nearly tripped over the person who had broken into her house. At one point during the call, the woman said “I don’t know what the hell is going on, my God.”
Mitchell is charged with felony burglary.
She initially told police that she had entered the home to retrieve some of the belongings of her late father, including his ashes.
Some Republican lawmakers have asked for Mitchell’s resignation or removal from the legislature. Mitchell is a Democrat from the St. Paul suburb of Woodbury.
