- Fargo is the largest city in North Dakota with about 125,000 people. The city of Bismarck comes in 2nd with approximately 73,000 residents.
2. The average temperature in January is 14 degrees with an average low of -3 degrees. The record low is -48 degrees with a windchill of -103 degrees.
Fargo is known as “The Toughest Weather City In America” according to The Weather Channel which is something we’re oddly proud of.
3. Fargo was first called Centralia, but the name was changed to Fargo, after the director of the Wells Fargo Express company.
4. In the 1880’s Fargo’s laws allowed for quick and easy divorces, and it became known as the Divorce Capital of the United States. A lot of famous people came to Fargo to get their divorces.
5. In 1920, 75.4% of the residents in Fargo were of German and/or Scandinavian descent, and 12% did not speak fluent English.
6. The movie “Fargo” was filmed in Minnesota because we didn’t have enough snow that year.
