BEMIDJI, Minn. (KFGO/KVRR) — A Beltrami County deputy is hurt after a suspect in a stolen vehicle crashed into the deputy’s vehicle head-on.
The deputy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital and later released.
The suspect, 26-year-old Jath Vincent, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. He remains in custody at the hospital awaiting formal charges.
The incident began around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday with an investigation into the stolen vehicle in a mobile home park west of Bemidji. When the deputy tried to stop Vincent, he fled and later crashed into the deputy’s vehicle.
“As the Sheriff, I would like to express my extreme appreciation to the deputy that was injured today, as well as all law enforcement, for the sacrifices that they make and the risks they take to protect our communities,” Sheriff Jason Riggs said. This appreciation does not end with those wearing the badge, but extends to the families that support their loved ones in a profession that can be very dangerous.”
