State Correctional Center in Rush City (Minn. DOC)
RUSH, CITY, Minn. – Four correctional officers were injured Saturday at Rush City Correctional Facility after an inmate allegedly stabbed one of them with a homemade shank.
It happened around 3:20 p.m. during routine cell searches. Officers said they confronted an inmate suspected of possessing homemade alcohol when he attacked.
Three officers moved in to restrain him, suffering bruises in the struggle. The stabbed officer sustained a puncture wound. All four were treated at a hospital and have since been released. The prison was placed on lockdown after the assault, though most operations have now resumed.
“This senseless act of violence is a stark reminder of the dangers correctional staff face every day,” said Department of Corrections Commissioner Paul Schnell. “We will pursue every available remedy to hold the assailant accountable.”
