Former West Fargo Police Chief Denis Otterness briefs media about WF School shooting threat (Madison Quinn, KFGO News)
MINOT, N.D. (KFGO) – The Minot City Council will consider the city manager’s recommendation to hire retired West Fargo Police Chief Denis Otterness as interim chief at Monday’s meeting.
This comes after former Minot Police Chief John Klug stepped down last month. Klug was placed on administrative leave in September after allegations of creating a hostile work environment and sexual harassment.
The Minot city manager offered Otterness a six-month contract with the option to extend it by a month at a time for up to an additional six months. Otterness would be paid $4,550 a week and earn one day of PTO per pay period.
Otterness retired from the West Fargo Police Department in October 2023 after serving as chief for about three years. He has 33 years of law enforcement experience.
If approved, Otterness would take over the role next Monday.
