WASHINGTON (KFGO) – Sens. John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer are recommending that President Donald Trump nominate Nick Chase to serve as U.S. Attorney for North Dakota.
Mac Schneider currently serves in the position. Schneider, who is a Democrat, was appointed to U.S. Attorney by former President Biden in 2022, and said recently he expects to be replaced by a Republican after Trump takes office.
Chase is a judge for North Dakota’s East Central Judicial District. Before that, he served for 20 years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including as acting U.S. Attorney. He also has experience in private practice.
The senators say Chase has dedicated his career to serving North Dakota, particularly addressing crime in Indian country and drug crimes.
Sources say several other attorneys have expressed interest in becoming the next U.S. Attorney for North Dakota. Among them are East Central District Court Judge Wade Webb, Minot lawyer Andrew Schultz, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jake Rodenbiker, and Fargo lawyer Trent Barkus.
