FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley says November’s fatal police-involved shooting in Fargo was “reasonable, justified and lawful in every way.”
Wrigley announced the findings of his department’s investigation during a news conference Wednesday in Fargo.
Peter Greco, 65, was shot and killed outside a home in the Deer Creek neighborhood. Greco was having mental health issues and came out of the home with a handgun.
Sgt. Lucas Mock and Officer Princeten Harris both fired their weapons and Greco died at the scene. They have been on administrative leave since the shooting.
Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski says officers “did everything possible to de-escalate the situation without the use of deadly force.”
Zibolski says that while he regrets the outcome of the incident, he’s proud of the officers’ actions.
Wrigley expressed some frustration over one of the findings of the investigation.
“It looks like, feels like every other .357 Magnum I’ve ever seen. Law enforcement believed it to be a .357 Magnum, until they got it kicked away from Mr. Greco. The secured it at the scene and turned it over and realized it says on the side, it’s a .177 caliber BB and pellet gun,” Wrigley said. “I’ll get in trouble with somebody, but I’m going to say it anyway – I can’t imagine why someone manufactures a piece of equipment like this.”
