FARGO (KFGO) – A Fargo man has been found guilty of conspiracy to tamper with a witness in a Fargo murder case.
Shaquiel Mendez, 31, was convicted after a four-day jury trial in federal court in Fargo. The US Attorney’s Office says Mendez convinced two inmates at the Cass County Jail to stab a witness with a pencil. Sentencing for Mendez is scheduled for April.
The assault was tied to the drug-related murder of Santino Marial, who was shot in August of 2020. Daniel Cisse was earlier sentenced to 11 years in prison for the attack on the prisoner.
Sentencing for another man, who pleaded guilty, is set for next month.
31-year-old James Burnett is charged with the murder of Marial. His trial has been scheduled for April.
