JAMESTOWN, N.D. (KFGO) – The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead in Jamestown early Tuesday morning.
Jamestown Police say officers were called for a report of a man with a gun and knife in the parking lot of a bar. The 9-1-1 caller said the man got into a fight inside the bar and was kicked out.
As the first officer arrived, the caller reported the man was firing shots at the bar. The officer also saw the man firing rounds at the bar from a rifle.
The officer ordered the man to put the gun down, but he refused.
Police say the man put the officer’s safety in jeopardy and the officer shot him. Officers gave the man aid at the scene before he was taken to Jamestown Regional Medical Center where he died.
The involved officers have been placed on standard administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
The man’s name has not been released.
The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, Jamestown Area Ambulance, and the N.D. BCI assisted at the scene.
