BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) – Bloomington Police are investigating a rare case of livestock theft after a St. Paul woman allegedly stole a ram from a local farm.
In a YouTube video, Police Chief Booker Hodges says his officers responded to a call near Kelley Farm on October 9, one of the few farms remaining in the city, after witnesses reported seeing a couple walking a dog and a sheep. The sheep turned out to be a ram.
Hodges said the suspect, 42-year-old Mandy Kay Bauer of St. Paul claimed to have paid for the animal, but evidence shows she dragged the ram from the farm.
Livestock rustling, more common in the 1800s, is almost unheard of in modern days outside of rural areas.
Bauer was charged with one count of rustling and livestock theft. She’s since been released.
