FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) — Several people testified Wednesday during the murder trial for Spencer Moen who is accused of killing his wife, Sonja, in their West Fargo home.
Among those who took the stand were the Moen’s young kids as well as Sonja’s mother, Kristin Scofield.
While on the stand, Scofield testified that she talked with her daughter about drinking too much and said she believed Spencer to be an alcoholic.
Scofield believes Spencer killed her daughter.
The defense questioned Scofield on whether she had instructed the kids on what to say or whether she’s talked to them about their parents.
“Do I talk about Spencer or their mother? About the murder. I do not,” Scofield said. “I listen to them, I do not talk to them about it. I tell them that I’m sorry that happened to them.”
The defense asked how the Moens’ daughter would be able to say the word, ‘murder’ or where she would get that from
“She’s six years old, she’s smart,” Scofield said.
The defense argued the girl doesn’t know when her birthday is or how long it’s been since she’s seen her father.
“There’s no concept of time for a child,” Scofield responded.
Moen faces life in prison, if convicted.
