ST. LOIUS PARK, Minn. (KFGO) – Minnesota lawmakers could look to increase penalties for repeat drunk drivers in response to the deadly crash at the Park Tavern in St. Louis Park.
Senator Ron Latz of St. Louis Park says the state has a robust system for repeat offenders with driver’s license revocation and mandatory ignition interlocks. He says the state could do more.
“Extend the number of years that interlock could be required under certain circumstances,” Latz says. “Maybe lifetime requirements once you hit a certain point. You know we’re gonna take a comprehensive look at things which cases like this cause us to do.”
Steven Frane Bailey, 56, has five previous DWI convictions. Police say his blood alcohol content was more than four times the legal limit. He made his first court appearance Wednesday for charges of criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation
