OTTERTAIL, Minn. (KFGO/KBRF) – An Underwood man is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from his former employer. 54-year-old Martin Gene Krenz has been accused of stealing over $3,000 from his former employer in the city of Ottertail.
According to court documents, the district manager of a business in Ottertail reported that Krenz had taken two separate cash deposits from the store on November 23rd and 24th, 2023, totaling $3,464.43.
Documents showed Krenz had acknowledged getting the store cash receipts, but there is no documentation of deposits at the bank, and the cash was not otherwise returned to the store.
Surveillance footage on both days show Krenz taking the deposit from the store in the cash bag, and later returning with the bag.
When an Otter Tail County deputy spoke with Krenz, he did not openly admit to stealing the money. He mentioned medical issues in his family, before saying it was the store that had wronged him, claiming they did not properly pay him vacation time after his resignation.
Krenz denied stealing the money, but when deputies said that charges would likely be brought up against him, he allegedly offered to come up with the money.
Krenz makes his initial court appearance Monday.
