WAHPETON, N.D. (KFGO) – A man was arrested after a shelter in place was issued for part of Wahpeton Friday afternoon.
Police Chief Matthew Anderson says officers responded to a report that a man had assaulted his 14-year-old sister at a home on 3rd Street N and pointed a gun at the girl. A perimeter was established.
Anderson says a man, three women and two children were able to leave the home and were taken to safety. The suspect was 20-year-old Nathan Deemer.
Anderson says the Southern Valley Special Response Team was activated. After about three hours, Deemer left the house through the rear entrance and tried to get away. Officers deployed less than lethal sponge rounds and Deemer surrendered. He was taken to the Richland County Jail on outstanding warrants and for terrorizing and domestic assault.
Wahpeton Police were assisted by the Richland and Wilkin County Sheriff’s Departments, Breckenridge and North Dakota State School of Science Police, End of the Woods Task Force and North Dakota Highway Patrol.
