FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo city commissioners are expected to approve a request for proposal seeking a buyer for a prime piece of city-owned property near the corner of Main Ave. and 2nd St. S for future development.
The land is on the site of the former Park East Apartments, overlooking the Red River. The 122-unit complex was bought out and demolished in 2015 to make way for a large earthen levee which is part of downtown flood protection.
Jim Gilmour, City Director of Strategic Planning and Research, says the last portion of the flood control project is nearing completion. That will leave a 54,000 square foot segment of property, about a half block, for sale. Gilmour says they’re seeking private development to get the property back on the tax rolls.
The minimum purchase price is $541,000. Gilmour says one developer has already expressed interest in the site and is prepared to start work on the project beginning this summer. The deadline for submitting purchase proposals is March 19.
