MOORHEAD (KFGO/KVRR) — The largest road project in Moorhead’s history is finally underway and already facing its first delay.
A ceremony was held Saturday for the 11th Street Underpass under BNSF lines between Center Avenue and 1st Avenue N.
Crews were going to start detours Monday, but the weather has pushed those plans to Wednesday.
1st Avenue N. will close between 10th and 12th Streets and 11th Street will close from 2nd Avenue N. to Main Avenue. Intersections at Center and Main will remain open.
Gov. Tim Walz said that projects like this are needed to keep up with economic and population growth.
“Folks up here have dealt with trains for 50 years blocking growth of a very dynamic area,” Walz said. “This is the most important and basic function that government does.”
The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
