FARGO (KFGO) -The Fargo Fire Department was dispatched to a report of what appeared to be a person in the Red River near the 52nd Ave South Convent Landing on Saturday at 4:17 p.m. A passerby had been driving over the 52nd Ave bridge when the driver spotted what appeared to be a person in the river. When Fargo Fire arrived, the passerby was still on the scene to direct crews.
Fire crews found a woman floating on her back in the middle of the river. Crews, wearing cold-water rescue suits, immediately entered the river, grabbed the victim, and, with the assistance of The Fargo Police Department, brought her to shore. Additional personnel were on shore and began providing medical care. The victim was breathing on her own.
The victim was out of the water in less than 60 seconds. She was quickly transferred to the arriving ambulance and taken to a local medical facility. The Fargo Fire Department is unable to release any further information about her condition.
The Fargo Fire Department would like to remind everyone that immersion in cold water can cause hypothermia in minutes; once hypothermia sets in, it may prove impossible to self-rescue. The Fargo Fire Department was assisted on this scene by The Fargo Police Department and Sanford Ambulance.
