MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO) – Park Christian School of Moorhead is denying allegations that the school violated the civil rights of a former student because he’s African-American.
Jaeden Moton and Alonzo Moton are suing the school in federal court. The Moton’s claim that when Jaeden was a student in 2015, his father was forced to sign an “academic contract” which was not required for other students.
Park Christian filed a response to the lawsuit. The school says Jaeden was not allowed to return to the school in 2015 because he didn’t meet the academic requirements.
The Moton’s also claim that Jaeden was required to try out for a spot on the school basketball team, but other students were exempt.
Attorneys for Park Christian say the school denies “each and every allegation” in the complaint. They’re asking a federal judge to dismiss the lawsuit.
The Moton’s are seeking a jury trial and at least $75,000 in damages.
