ST. PAUL, Minn. – Analysts predict a showdown in the nation’s highest court, after Colorado’s Supreme Court banned Donald Trump from the presidential primary ballot — while the Minnesota Supreme Court in early November denied a similar request, as did the high court in New Hampshire.
Hamline University legal and political analyst David Schultz says the question inevitably has to be addressed by the U.S. Supreme Court. He says because if it isn’t, there’s going to be a patchwork across the country where different states reach potentially different conclusions regarding Trump’s eligibility.
Schultz says the issue also must be resolved “pretty quickly,” with the Iowa caucuses fast-approaching in mid-January and the New Hampshire primary only about a week later.
