WASHINGTON, D.C. – Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar is leading a bipartisan group of lawmakers to propose the Fans First Act — legislation aimed at eliminating hidden fees in live event ticket systems and ending what Klobuchar calls Ticketmaster’s “monopoly.”
The legislation is the next chapter in a growing battle between Washington and ticketing services.
In November, the Justice Department launched an investigation into LiveNation for what they call “anti-competitive practices.”
President Joe Biden blasted the ticketing services during his State of the Union address and, in October, proposed an outright ban on hidden fees across all industries.
Klobuchar says buying a ticket to see a concert or game is out of reach for too many Americans, and bots, hidden fees, and predatory practices are hurting consumers. She said the Fans First Act will ensure fans get refunds for canceled shows and ban speculative ticket sales, among other measures to help improve the ticket-buying experience.
