GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – A North Dakota Army National Guard unit has received an alert for mobilization. Grand Forks-based Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, will deploy to the U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) area of operations sometime early fall 2023 to provide integrated air defense coverage and early warning in support of a battalion task force.
USCENTCOM’s area of operations stretches from Northeast Africa across the Middle East to Central and South Asia, spans 21 countries, and covers vital commercial sea lanes, flight corridors, pipelines, and overland routes. Its number one command priority is to deter Iran.
This is the 13th deployment for the 1-188th ADA since 2004, making it the most-deployed unit in the N.D. National Guard. The battalion has supported the Operation Noble Eagle mission in Washington, D.C. multiple times and deployed to Kosovo as part of a NATO peacekeeping mission. They have also deployed to Afghanistan six times and twice to Iraq.
