MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) – A Minneapolis man has pleaded guilty to three violent carjackings in the Twin Cities in March.
According to U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger, Javon Wilson-Branch and another person pointed a handgun and rifle at the victims and demanded their keys before driving away in the stolen vehicles.
The carjackings happened the night of March 16 and in the early morning hours of March 17. In one instance, Wilson-Branch pointed a rifle at two people who had just parked their SUV and demanded they give them everything they had. In another carjacking, Wilson-Branch and the other person pointed their guns at the victim and forced the person to hand over his wallet, keys, and unlocked phone.
Shortly after the third vehicle was stolen, St. Paul Police spotted two of the carjacked vehicles and tried to stop them, but they fled at a high rate of speed. Later, Woodbury Police officers found one of the stolen vehicles in a mall parking lot and arrested Wilson-Branch after a short chase.
Officers found two of the guns used in the carjackings in the stolen car, along with keys to a stolen SUV.
