WILLMAR, Minn. – A Willmar man who pleaded guilty earlier this month to shooting at a Willmar police officer has been sentenced to more than 15 years in prison.
On July 5, 2022, 29-year-old Sebastian Arevalo fired a gun at a Willmar police officer who was investigating a previous drive-by shooting in southwest Willmar, then drove away. Arevalo faced six charges, and 4 were dismissed as part of a plea bargain.
Arevalo was sentenced in Kandiyohi County District Court by Judge Melissa Listug Wednesday after pleading guilty to 2nd Degree Assault, Use of Deadly Force Against a Peace Officer, and 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
Listug sentenced Arevalo to just under 16 years in prison, but gave him 13 months credit for time already served.
Arevalo’s younger brother Christian, who drove the getaway car, was sentenced to four years in prison for being an accomplice in November.
