ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie Gildea is stepping down in October, but says this is not the end of her career.
Gildea said she’s made the decision to step down from the Supreme Court, but doesn’t intend to retire from the workforce. She will take time to explore her next adventure.
Minnesota voters elected Gildea as Chief Justice twice, and she said she will always be grateful for that.
Gildea said the Minnesota Supreme Court is “one of the glories” of the state. She said Minnesota’s judicial elections have not turned into the sort of “mud wrestling” contests like they have in other states.
“I think it is really important to keep partisan politics as far away from judicial selection as possible,” Gildea said. “When you’re a judge in Minnesota, you’re a judge for people of every political party, and people of no political party.”
Gildea said the high court works really hard at being collaborative to get the right outcome for the people of Minnesota. She said she will help the new Chief Justice with the transition this fall.
